PhD Dinner

Hello Friends pursuing PhDs and Jesus!

I continue to be convinced that our vocational calling and our faith are intricately linked. Jesus reveals himself and his Kingdom through our work to ourselves and to the work that we are called into. As the months fly by, please take a moment of pause for the month of November in prayer, yummy dinner, gracious fellowship and divine intervention as you pursue the calling God has invited you into. As a gift: Professor Jim Canary, a chemistry prof at NYU, and his wife Cathy, a developmental psychologist, will be joining us for dinner to share their story and listen to ours as they pray courage over us.

When: Thursday, November 5, 5pm-7pm
Where: Anna Lee-Winans’ home: 55 East 9th Street, apt. 6K (on 9th between Broadway and University)
What: Dinner, Prayer and Remembrances of God’s faithfulness to provide all of what we need for all of what he’s called us to do
Who: PhD candidates, PhD candidate’s Significant Other (if applicable), Jesus, Drs. Jim and Cathy Canary, and Anna =)

Bowery Mission Anniversary Art Series

The Bowery Mission is an incredible Christian ministry to the homeless: one of the most prolific feeding programs with one of the most successful programs in transitioning men and women from homelessness and addiction to reconciliation and wholeness: spiritually, physically, relationally, systemically.  Anna Lee-Winans’ husband, James Winans has the privilege of working with them.

It’s their 130th Anniversary and the 100th Anniversary of their historic chapel down on the Bowery in NYU’s backyard.  They are hosting an Arts Series Event every Thursday evening this October beginning tonight (see schedule below).  It looks incredible and inspiring to learn about the history and transformation of the city we have been called to live and serve in, and perhaps even to place ourselves within the larger story of God’s redeeming work.  I hope you’ll spread the word and join us there!
